Human
Growth Hormone
Human growth hormone, or
growth
hormone, is a protein hormone. This hormone facilitates
growth in living beings. Its main functions are performance
of metabolic activities such as growth, cell multiplication,
and reproduction. This hormone protein is a peptide in its
structure. It is a 191-amino acid, single-chain polypeptide.
It is present in the lateral wings of the anterior pituitary
gland. This hormone is highly reactive, and its components
repeat in a set pattern, but this repetition takes fragile
linkages for bonding purposes. Humans can benefit from these
hormones when they come from the human body. This chemical,
from other sources, may not be feasible for humans as it may
not fulfill all the requirements of human body.
There are two kinds of growth hormones that are widely in
use. The first kind is Somatotropin. We also know this
growth hormone as growth hormone 1, and it is obtained it
from animals. The second type of growth hormone is
Somatropin. It is the name we use for the artificial or
synthetic type of hormone. The production process of this
hormone is dependant on recombinant DNA technology. This is
the hormone which is normally referred to as
HGH
human growth hormone.
Normal use of this hormone is to facilitate growth, normally
in children. The government has given permission to
pharmacies only to provide these drugs in response of a
doctor’s prescription. In recent years, doctors have also
started to prescribe it to older patients. However, it is
not safe to use in old age. The users of this hormone should
keep in mind that this hormone is not very old to medical
science, so we may miss most of its functions and benefits.
This
hormone is available in injection form, and as we have
already studied, the doctors prescribe this hormone intake
only to children or to adults, who have marked deficiency of
this hormone and whose body is unable to produce enough
amount of growth hormones that is necessary for their age.
This deficiency should not be one that is the result of
aging.
A deficiency can arise due to pituitary adenoma, which is a
kind of tumor in the pituitary gland, or is due to treatment
of this tumor with an operation or radiotherapy. In such a
case, if an adult gets this hormone deficiency, he can treat
it by taking human growth hormone injections. These
injections will benefit the patient by increasing their bone
density, increasing muscles mass, decreasing the body fat
and increasing the bodies energy. They say that this
treatment is also helpful in the treatment of AIDS or HIV
related muscle treatment.
Human growth hormone is especially beneficial in the
development of connective tissues and the immunity system of
the skeletal system. It heals skin tissues to make them look
younger. Moreover, we can treat fractured bones as a
by-product of human growth hormone treatment. This treatment
also sometimes results in hair re-growth.
The aging process is categorized with catabolism. Catabolism
is the breakdown of tissues, faster than their repair. The
use of growth hormones reverses this process. The cells
start regeneration, and the tissues regain their
development. More recently,
HGH
supplements have been developed that act as an
HGH
releaser to allow the body to heal itself.*
